Description
Cosy mountain home in the heart of Crested Butte
Situated in the heart of Crested Butte, Sopris House is a former saloon known in the early 1880s as the Spritzer Bar. The property still retains many original features, including the original tin ceiling, yet has been updated with a stylish interior and modern facilities. Guests reach the slopes on a custom-designed snowcat which picks up from the entrance to the property and drops off in nearby Irwin, giving access to 1,000-plus acres of ski terrain featuring epic powder and alpine bowls. Aside from skiing, either backcountry, piste, snowcat or cross-country, guests can enjoy snowshoeing, ice climbing and mountaineering. In summer, guests can choose from a multitude of activities, from mountain biking, hiking and horseriding, to fishing, white water rafting and rock climbing.
Set over two floors, the main living area is located on the first level. Open plan, the lounge features a fireplace and comfortable sofas whilst the dining area is looked over by a huge buffalo head. There is also an open kitchen where guests can watch the chef at work. Guests can expect seasonally-inspired dishes during their stay, with breakfast and lunch included. Lunch is served in one of the private on-mountain cabins at Irwin. For dinner, guests can sample some of Crested Butte's restaurants or enjoy an in-house dinner cooked by a private chef.
There are plenty of spaces in which to unwind after a day's activities at Sopris House. Hang out in the bar, complete with pool table, vintage jukebox, TV and surround system; or chill out in the media room, equipped with TV, game console, fresh food minibar and bean bags. The bar opens out onto a aspen-shaded courtyard with outdoor seating, a fire pit, sound system and a Big Green Egg for grilling. There is also a sauna, copper hot tub and cold dipping pool to soothe any weary muscles.
Sopris House is able to accommodate up to 10 people. There are four en-suite bedrooms divided between the two floors. The colourful master suite offers direct access to the patio and has an en-suite bathroom with steam shower and bateau soaking tub. There is a junior suite on the first floor with a four-poster bed and upstairs a third king-size bedroom with a cosy mountain vibe. Featuring twin beds with pull out trundle beds, the fourth bedroom is ideal for children or parents with young children. Sopris House can be rented in conjunction with its neighbour Scarp Ridge Lodge to accommodate larger groups.
